1. I describe my artistic style as more of a realism type style. I fin success as an artist when I am happy with what I created. If someone else is happy with it but I'm not, I don't feel that I was successful. The most rewarding feeling as an artist is when you create something unique and everything that you wanted in the piece turns out just right. My most important skills are to create the right colors, proportion the work correctly, and make sure that the shading matches where the light source is coming from. The most significant things I've learned through art making is to make sure that if you are creating art off a reference paper, you want to draw what you see, not what you think it should look like. I also learned that if you plan out your artwork that you are going to create, you will achieve more success.
2.
This piece isn't my best work, but it helped me to understand a lot of things when it comes to prisma colors. From the project I really learned how prisma's mix and which colors create darker or lighter tones. I learned when to apply certain colors over others, different pencil strokes when in certain areas of the piece, and how to correctly blend the colored pencils so that the piece looks smooth. This piece also helped me to understand which colors complement each other so for next time I create a prisma drawing, I will have this knowledge.
This painting shows a lot of my growth when it comes to my painting skills. I'm not the best painter but since this class started, I have showed a lot of growth when it comes to my painting techniques and skill. I have gotten better with blending my colors and finding out which color is the best fit for this piece. I also got better at my strokes with a paintbrush. This project also had me try out different styles of art that I am not used to. The project allowed us to explore these different styles of art to see if we enjoyed it and to gain more knowledge about that specific style.
6. My favorite medium to work with would have to be colored pencil. This is my favorite medium because I have experience with it from drawing and I am much more comfortable creating art with a pencil, it feels more natural to me. I had lots of practice working with prisma in drawing and we did even more in art 2, helping , me to master this technique. The piece I created in art 2 isn't my best colored pencil creation because I hadn't made a portrait using only three colors. This helped me increase my blending skills using this medium.
7. I felt least successful when creating the clay sculpture. I don't have much experience when working with clay, so this project obviously wasn't going to be my best work. I feel like I would have been much more successful if I wasn't in a rush to create this sculpture. My sculpture was a blueberry pie. I could have added MUCH more texture and detail to the crust of the pie. I think that the shape looks pretty good but I left out details that would have really made the piece come together. I could have also created colors that looked more like the reference picture of the pie. Next time I have a project that involves clay, I will take my time planning it out and make sure to take that extra step in adding details and texture.
